Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Sunday felicitated the blind women’s national cricket team at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, congratulating them for finishing runners-up in the first-ever Blind Women’s T-20 Cricket World Cup held in Sri Lanka.
Commending the players for “holding the heads of Nepal and Nepalis high,” the Prime Minister described their achievement as a historic milestone and a proud moment for the nation. “This success is the result of your hard work, collective spirit and determination,” she said. “Every player and official deserves this achievement. Work even harder to become champions next time.”
Prime Minister Karki praised the team’s talent and dedication, noting that their performance—achieved largely through their own effort—was remarkable. She expressed commitment to coordinating with concerned ministries and agencies to explore further government support for the development of blind cricket.
Nepal, led by captain Geeta Poudel and coached by Puran Singh Khatri, secured second place in the tournament, losing to India in the final by seven wickets.
During the programme, team members shared that they were able to surpass teams from resource-rich countries and expressed confidence that with stronger government backing, they could clinch the championship in future editions.
